Wear Leads

Wear leads sit within the brake pad material, so that once the pad is worn too low, it causes a wire in the sensor to come into contact with the metal of the brake disc, creating an electrical circuit and causing a dashboard light to illuminate.

Brake pad wear is dependent on a number of factors, such as driving style, so consequently there is no set interval for replacement. Brakes however, are a serviceable item and should be monitored annually. If a garage discovers that the brake pads need replacing, the wear lead will also need to be replaced.
